Sport Aberdeen to Host VSA and Inspire Football Tournament

23.7.15

Organised by VSA, the tournament was the bright idea of one of their service users and is for players with a learning disability and their support workers, family and friends.

Teams from VSA, Inspire, North East Community Care and Dalzers Rockets will take part in the event which runs from 1030 – 1330.

Participants will then be making their way to Pittodrie to watch Jamie Langfield’s testimonial with complimentary tickets courtesy of AFC Community Trust.

Tournament organiser Rebecca Mulholland, a support worker for VSA said “David loves football and wanted to create a league that he and his peers could take part in.

With the help of his support worker at VSA’s Criagton Grove, David has managed to achieve just that. David and his fellow footballer Bobby from Inspire’s Great Northern road project, along with his support worker Suzanne Rutherford have all worked hard fundraising to ensure the tournament will be a great success and we are all thoroughly looking forward to the day.

The first 5 a side football tournament will take place at Sheddocksley Sports Centre on Sunday 26thJuly at 10.30am. Come and see teams from; VSA, Inspire, North East Community Care and Dalzers Rockets compete for the trophy.”

Many of the players taking part in the VSA tournament are regular participants at the Everybody Active Football sessions at Sheddocksley Sports Centre.

The sessions are co-ordinated by Sport Aberdeen and supported by AFC Community Trust who provide coaches for the session and they are a great way to enjoy the game of football, have fun and make friends.

Sessions occur from 1330 – 1500 on Fridays during the school term. For more information on how to get involved in these regular sessions, please contact Andrinne Craig, Sport Aberdeen Inclusion Development Officer on 01224 578718.
