Aberdeen Youth Games - Secondary Festival of Sport

The Aberdeen Youth Games (AYG) is an innovative sports programme which promotes physical activity, health and well-being among young people from Primary and Secondary Schools across the City of Aberdeen. It was developed in partnership by Sport Aberdeen’s Active Schools Team and Robert Gordon’s University’s Applied Sport and Exercise Science Team.

We are delighted to invite your school to the 2018 AYG Secondary Schools Festival. Whereas the Primary Schools festival is primarily focused on participation, this event is intended to be competitive and promote the positive values of competition. The AYG Secondary Schools Festival will be a one-day event made up of five sports that schools can submit teams to compete in. This year’s selected sports are Football, Dodgeball, Table Tennis, Basketball and Swimming.

Aberdeen Youth Games - Secondary Student Placement

This year there will be a new aspect to the festival with RGU students coming out into the secondary schools from January for 6 weeks. They will help schools coordinate teams, organise transport as well as shadowing PE staff to learn how to teach in a school setting.

Aberdeen Youth Games - Secondary Festival of Sport

The finale of the Aberdeen Youth Games will be the Secondary Festival of Sport on 7th February 2019. This will take part at Aberdeen Sports Village for S1-3 pupils. All schools that have had RGU placement students promoting the Aberdeen Youth Games are invited to attend. The all-day event will encourage pupils to participate in sport. The sports will be chosen from effective sports development links in the City and their clear player pathways from school to club. This shall allow the pupils an opportunity to progress to a higher level if they so desire.
