Community Sports Hubs
Community Sports Hubs bring local clubs, organisations, and partners together to improve the impact of sport and physical activity in communities across Aberdeen.
Supporting Active Communities
A Community Sports Hub is a local collective of sports clubs and other community organisations that come together to improve the contribution that sport and physical activity has on a community.
Leaders from these organisations work together to develop active communities where everyone benefits from sport and physical activity.
The Community Sports Hub approach is to support and empower local people to improve sport and physical activity in communities across Scotland. It starts with understanding the needs within a community and then collaborating to facilitate and deliver activities and interventions.
What is a Community Sports Hub?
A Community Sports Hub is a local collective of sports clubs and other community organisations that come together to improve the contribution that sport and physical activity has on a community.

The Community Sports Hub approach is to support and empower local people to improve sport and physical activity in communities across Scotland. It starts with understanding the needs within a community and then collaborating to facilitate and deliver activities and interventions.
Community Sports Hubs bring together sports clubs and key local partners who want to develop and grow the sporting offering in the community.
They focus on sustainable, community-led approaches that get clubs working together to develop welcoming, safe, and fun environments for sport.
A hub can be based around local facilities, such as sports centres, community centres, the natural environment, or schools. It can also be a network of sports clubs sharing best practice and continuing professional development.
Community Sports Hubs are supported by sportscotland as part of a national approach to helping local clubs, organisations, and communities work together to increase participation in sport and physical activity. The Six principles
Meeting community needs
- Inclusive – understand the barriers people face and proactively address them
- Responsive – adapt what they do based on how they are doing and what’s happening around them
Fostering community collaboration
- Accountable – plan well, measure their performance and be accountable for delivering outcomes
- Collaborative – develop and strengthen partnerships and collaborations across public, voluntary and private sectors
Empowering community leaders
- Person-centred – listen to people and put their voices at the heart of their thinking
- Continuously improving – do everything to the highest standard, whilst seeking to continuously improve
Each pillar contains two key principles which link to sportscotland’s corporate strategy Sport for life
