Ice Skating Lessons FAQ

How do I apply for lessons?

Junior Learn to Skate, Adult Learn to Skate and Private Lessons can all be booked via their information pages.  Alternatively, you can email our Learn to Skate Co-ordinator at linxicearena@sportaberdeen.co.uk. If you require more information, please contact our helpful reception staff at the venue or call 01224 507762.

What happens during lessons?

Each level will be given a 30 minute group lesson with a coach on the ice. On arrival, you should check in at reception, get yourself prepared with your skates on (skate hire is included if required) and make your way to the side of the rink ready for your lesson start time.

What should I wear?

For those just starting out, we recommend you dress in warm clothes that are non-restrictive e.g. leggings/stretchy trousers and a long sleeve top. Wearing lots of layers is a good idea and you can layer down if needed. Younger children are advised to bring a helmet for the first few lessons.

How do I progress?

At Ice Aberdeen we deliver the British Ice Skating Skate UK syllabus. There are eight levels in the learn to skate programme (Basic Skills 1–8), followed by three Star levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) and you will progress through these as you pass each element.

How can I experience other ice disciplines?

As part of the Learn to Skate programme, every other month we hold Chance to Try sessions to enable skaters to experience the other skating disciplines of Ice Dance, Synchronised Skating or Ice Hockey.

How do I join a club?

Our clubs at the Linx Ice Arena welcome skaters at different levels of the programme and you will be introduced to these at various stages throughout the year. To find out more about the clubs based at the Linx Ice Arena, please visit our Ice Skating page under the sub header clubs.

How do I pay?

You pay a set fee per month by direct debit. On sign up, you will be required to fill in a direct debit mandate, with a minimum contract of one month.
