The current course was laid out in 1872 and it’s an old-school challenge for anyone with a feel for links golf. Think big dunes, very quick greens and lots of bunkers. Described as ‘golf in the raw’, watch out if the wind is blowing. Golf has been played on the Aberdeen links since at least as early as 1780 and on the site of the current course since 1872. Set between the city and the sea this is a classic links course so characteristic of Scotland’s east coast. Using the natural undulating terrain of the dunes, quick greens and varying wind conditions Kings Links offers an enjoyable challenge for golfers’ keen to experience authentic links golf. At 6289 yards Par 71, with three par 5s and four par 3s the course has great variation and will test even the most capable golfer when played in windy conditions. Endeavour to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled tee time to ensure you are ready to go at the correct time. Avoid Slow Play When your group is not keeping up with the pace of play of the group in front of you, allow groups behind you to play through at an appropriate time if they wish to move quicker. Although mobile phones are not banned on the course, we do not recommend that you use your phone whilst playing as this may cause slow play and may result in an accident. Help to Maintain the Course Replace all divots. Use soil/seed mixture provided on the tee to fill in the divots that cannot be replaced directly (Hazlehead Pines). Rake bunkers once you have played your shot – removing all footprints. Repair all pitch marks When on the green, do not stand where you might distract fellow players. Do not make any noise when your fellow players are preparing to take their shot. Miscellaneous Never hit when there is a chance that you may hit another golfer or member of the public. If your shot looks like it may hit anyone on the course, you should shout “fore” immediately. Abusive language and angry outbursts are not acceptable therefore you should keep your temper under control at all times. Be aware of the people around you as well as fellow players as this may make some uneasy. Be aware of green staff and golf marshalls on the course. Alert any staff in your view before taking your shot.
