Billy's road to London

30.9.21

Billy, a golf starter at Hazlehead, has decided to take on the feat of completing his fifth London Marathon! With the big day approaching, we decided to ask him a few questions.

Q. Why have you decided to run the London Marathon?

I just love it. I love the feeling of crossing that finish line. This will be my fifth London Marathon and 11th overall.

Q. What has your training routine been like?

I’ve never followed a programme. I’ve been running since I was 22 so I just manage my training myself. After 10 marathons, I’d like to think I know what I’m doing. In the 3 months building up to the marathon I’ll try to run 90 miles a week!

Q. Have you had to adjust your lifestyle to reach your goals?

Not really. I haven’t had to change anything but the length of my runs as I get closer to the marathon. I’ll slowly build up the distance I’m running. At the moment I’m doing 20 mile runs on weekends.

Q. Have you been setting yourself regular goals to achieve throughout your training?

I’ve just been making sure to get my runs in. It can be hard to be motivated to get out and get a run in after work so I’ve been trying to get them in before work. I usually keep weekends for my longer runs because I have more free time.

Q. Are you going to keep up your current training routine?

This will be my last London marathon but I want to do the Blenheim marathon again because the last time I ran it, I was injured, but that’ll be my last one. After that I’ll stick to 10k’s and half marathons.

Q. What advice would you give to someone that is thinking of running a marathon or undertaking a huge fitness journey?

Just enjoy it, it’s the most important part.

We hope that Billy’s story can inspire you to achieve your own fitness goals.

Good luck to Billy, and we can’t wait to find out how he gets on!
