Multiple Sclerosis Exercise Programme

Multiple Sclerosis Exercise Programme

Sport Aberdeen is pleased to work in partnership with MS Society Aberdeen Group and NHS Grampian to offer exercise classes specifically designed to support people with multiple sclerosis to be active and live well.
Who is the programme for?

The programme is aimed at people living with MS who wish to exercise to help them stay as healthy as possible.

How will the programme work?

The programme will offer the opportunity to attend exercise classes led by Sport Aberdeen’s team of experienced exercise instructors, who will work with participants to help build their confidence and activity levels and talk through any concerns they may have about being active.

These classes are funded by the MS Society Aberdeen Group and open to those living with MS. The classes will take place at Horizon’s Rehabilitation Centre, Aberdeen.

Participants will use the Technogym Easy Line equipment which is ideal for people who want to use fuss free gym equipment to do some low impact but effective and fun exercise. The exercises will aim to improve confidence exercising and will work the upper and lower body.

What are the benefits?

While exercise doesn’t provide a cure, research tells us keeping active can:

  • Help you manage MS symptoms, including fatigue and problems with balance and walking.
  • Improve your mood.
  • Improve your overall health when your MS is mild.
  • Help you to stay as mobile and active as possible when your MS is more severe.
  • Decrease the risk of heart disease.
How do I know if this is right for me?

If you answer yes to all of the statements below then this programme is right for you:

  • I am living with MS.
  • I have no other health conditions that would prevent me taking part in exercise.
  • I can transfer myself independently e.g. transfer from one piece of Technogym equipment to another.
