Lessons & Coaching
We are committed to providing quality swimming tuition for all ages, from birth to adults, in our highly acclaimed learn to swim programme, run at pools across the city.
The programme’s major aim is to teach children and adults to swim safely and provide them with the opportunity to participate in an enjoyable, healthy activity which can be pursued at all levels and throughout one’s life.
The programme follows the Scottish Swimming Framework and Aquatics Aberdeen is the proud winner of the Scottish Water Learn to Swim Provider of the Year 2017, awarded by Scottish Swimming and was a finalist once again in 2019. Pools
With six pools across the city, there’s a pool near you!
Aquatics Aberdeen also runs lessons at the following pools:
- Aberdeen Grammar School Pool
- Dyce Primary School Swimming Pool
- Dyce Academy Swimming Pool
- Orchard Brae School Swimming Pool
Clubs
There are five junior swimming clubs across the city who are members of the University of Aberdeen Performance Swimming Programme. This is an elite programme and relies on swimmers coming through from the junior clubs on a regular basis.
When your child completes Swim Skills 4 or above, they have the opportunity to trial with a swimming club. The squad members are required to attend two or three sessions per week. If your child progresses into a swimming club the competition events begin at the age of eight with local mini meets and novice galas. These are fun events and introduce the swimmer to the excitement of competitive swimming.
Not all swimmers wish to commit themselves to many hours of training and most clubs have a section for swimmers who wish to attend fewer sessions for enjoyment and fitness, or to compete only on a limited basis.
